Welcome to February.
It is a difficult month – but there has been loving solace offered to me during this heartbreaking time. It has not been an easy season. Between the brutally cold winter, caring for an influx of Emergency Room patients, grieving for two of my close co-workers who both recently lost their mothers (bittersweet reminders everywhere,) and the ongoing struggle to keep strong as my own mother’s death anniversary approaches – I have been at another crossroads. Granted, I am thankful that this dreadful year has not been as gut wrenching as the last – but, I still have moments where I feel paralyzed with emotional pain and burst into tears at the sight of anything that reminds me of my momma.
The years do not fully take the pain away, but I am finding myself coping with it better. I can look at her older photographs, and not always feel the pressure of intense sadness in my chest. I can smile and laugh more now, at the memories they all provide. I tell her stories and feel the warmth of her spirit. The tears I cry are not always of immense sadness – but the relief in knowing that momma does not have to be physically or emotionally broken anymore. She can fly on anywhere her heart desires – to paint, sing, draw, play guitar, write, and watch over those who need her tender guidance. I know I always keep my eyes and heart open. I keep a steady watch for her everlasting warmth and reach out for her comfort. As long as there are beautiful angels like her, GeneratingHype, and the sweet angel mother of Mirz123 – keeping watch over all of us – I know in my heart that I will never truly be alone.
Though it is a painful season, hope and courage still light the way. I do my best not to allow my cup of sorrows to overflow – and let the love inside. I keep my faith that momma’s affection will never die away because I still carry it, deep within. Every day, I selflessly do all I can to offer this tenderness to others in return, with the hopes that giving this heartwarming love will help to heal and bring them happiness, too. Only time is the truest testament to weathering the storm to reach the sunlight – but I will keep fighting on to honor her memory and to make her proud. I want to be worthy of her. With each new day, there is renewed promise for tomorrow. I know with resolute courage, I will continue to endure – my angels are with me, standing by.
